The goal of the Democrats is not to stop, nor reduce violence by criminals using guns. It is purely to disarm the law abiding. The Dem elite backers, and politicians are well aware of that, but they have sold a lie to their Progressive supporters. If it were to reduce violence, they'd enforce existing laws more, and not plea down gun crimes to lesser charges. Rinse and repeat.

Of course the Media doesn't harp on mass shootings in Chicago, Baltimore, Philly, Atlanta, L.A. ,etc. It doesn't fit their disarm Whitey narrative. They want us defenseless, dependent, and controlled.
